Top Fine Motor Skill Activities For Preschoolers

By Betty White

Kids need to be tamed when they are young so that they can become better people when they grow up. Hence, both parents and teachers need to train the kids to be responsible in all ways possible. Find out what the kid loves doing and help him/her in developing it. This can only be possible if you introduce the best fine motor skill activities for preschoolers. These activities will help these children to grasp pencils, utensils, scissors, and other objects better. Kids that do not know how to tie their shoes well can also learn. Some of the motor skills are listed below.

The first task that can help your child learn is playing the dough and putty game. This will help them learn to grasp and squeeze better. Also, they will learn to stretch, roll, and create shapes with the play clay. In addition to that, you can have the kid try to cut the dough using scissors to help them know how to hold and use them.

You can as well introduce painting to the toddlers. Let them become messy as they paint with their fingers. This will help them become good in coordinating their eyes and fingers. Most kids enjoy painting with their fingers. For those who prefer brushes, this is a perfect opportunity to help them know how to grasp the devices well. Hence, painting is also a very nice task.

You can also let the kids play with sponges. This is a game that requires clean water, a sponge and two bowls, one filled with water. The kid will then soak the sponge in the bowl with water then squeeze it in the empty bowl. This will make these kids more creative and occupied.

Rice can also be used to play the rice race game. Put a handful of rice in one bowl, and then look for tweezers. If you want to compete with the kid, look for tweezers as well. Then, you can start a race of filling an empty bowl with the rice. This rice will be grabbed using the tweezers. Cereals like beans or maize can also be used in case the rice is too small.

Water play is also a good option. Fill a cup to about half or a quarter with clean water. Then, give the child an empty cup and a syringe or eye dropper. The kid will then use the eyedropper or syringe to fill the empty cup with water. You can compete with the kids to make them more aggressive.

Gardening or digging is also encouraged for kids who love this activity. Although it might be considered strenuous, the kids can do other smaller tasks like transferring seedlings. This will help them have better coordination of both the hand and the eyes.

There are several other tasks that you can let your child to be involved in to help them grow strong and intelligent. These activities may even lay a basis for the career of the kids. For instance, if you find out that your child is a good painter, you can sign him up for art classes.
